CPC Youth and Children’s
Christian Education (CE) Program
Thank you to those who have served as Sunday School teachers and commissioners over the years. Your dedication and commitment brought the Word of God to countless youngsters. And now, thanks to your feedback, the session and I have been discussing, brainstorming and praying about how we can reorganize CE this season to re-energize adults who have committed to work with our kids and re-ignite excitement in our kids in learning about their faith. We anticipate this to be the first baby step in a longer journey toward totally rejuvenating our Christian Education Program; more on that later.
This season, youth and children’s education will kick off in conjunction with World Communion Sunday on October 1st, and conclude May 20th. This season will be about music, mission, family and fellowship.
First Sunday: Music – We plan to provide opportunities for youth of all ages to praise God through music.
Second Sunday: Mission – One Sunday per month will be dedicated to performing a mission project during the Sunday school hour.
Third Sunday: Word of God – Younger children will be taught the more traditional Sunday School lesson and sent home with stories or other activities to prepare as a family for the following week. Older youth will be given an opportunity to interview members of the congregation about their faith journeys.
Fourth Sunday: Family – Together, parents or adult caregivers and youth will participate in a variety of activities during the Sunday school hour.
Fifth Sunday: Activities for the fifth Sunday will vary and may be held at different venues or times. Activities will be announced by the first Sunday of any month five Sundays.
One activity remaining constant is music; this part of youth worship is thriving and we plan to set aside 30 minutes at the beginning of each Sunday School hour for youth to continue to praise God through music. Additionally, we will be calling on our older youth to serve God by assisting youth choir directors and being accompanists throughout the year.
Pastor Geoff plans to facilitate work sessions for parents and other interested adults to gather your thoughts and ideas with the goal of determining what our future congregation members need to engage and excite them to learn about God and faith. He plans to hold a series of these facilitations during the Second Sundays. The dates of theses gatherings will be announced in the very near future. It is my sincere hope this season will be a time of positive change and discernment.
